N80 Q Steel Casing Pipe

N80 Q Steel Casing Pipe

According to the strength of the steel itself, the casing can be divided into different steel grades, namely J55, K55, N80, L80, C90, T95, P110, Q125, V150, etc. Different well conditions and well depths require different steel grades. In a corrosive environment, the casing itself is also required to have corrosion resistance. In places with complex geological conditions, the casing is also required to have anti-collapse performance.
Products Description

The N80 Q Steel Casing Pipe is commonly used in oil and gas wells to reinforce well walls and prevent collapse during operation.

Features

Stable Tensile Performance
N80Q pipe boasts a tensile strength exceeding 689 MPa. Temperature-controlled normalizing and tempering treatment, combined with automated tension straightening equipment, ensures uniform longitudinal strength distribution, making it suitable for casing support under medium- and long-term tension conditions in oil wells.

Rational Yield Strength Range
The yield strength range is controlled within 552–758 MPa through heat treatment, and the grain refinement control system keeps the yield difference within ±10%, minimizing deformation and instability caused by inconsistent material yield in the wellbore.

Meeting High-Pressure Collapse Resistance Requirements
The product boasts a maximum wall thickness of 30 mm. After hot rolling, it is tested with an online ultrasonic flaw detection system and high-pressure water pressure testing to verify its overall resistance to internal and external collapse. It is suitable for use in high-pressure or unstable formations.

Multiple Thread Connections
Supporting SC, LC, and BC thread styles, CNC-machined with thread accuracy of ±0.03 mm. An anti-seize coating enhances make-up consistency, making it suitable for various wellhead configurations and connection strength requirements.

Applications

Used in wellbore support systems for medium- and deep-layer oil wells

Used in casing layers during oil drilling operations, these pipes stabilize the wellbore, isolate formation pressure, and protect production tubing, ensuring continuous and safe drilling and production operations.

Used in gas wellhead structural sealing applications

Used in natural gas well construction for wellhead and wellbore structural isolation, withstanding gas pressure and preventing gas leakage, thereby improving wellbore sealing integrity and environmental safety.

Used for anti-extrusion applications in complex formations

Used in casing string installation in weak or easily collapsed formations, resisting formation lateral pressure and borehole wall collapse, ensuring wellbore structural stability during drilling and reducing the probability of downhole accidents.

Used in unconventional energy wellbore structural configurations

Used as structural tubing in unconventional energy wells such as shale gas and tight oil, these pipes enhance the wellbore's mechanical strength and withstand multi-stage fracturing loads, meeting the requirements of high-strength, high-sealing operations.

Product Packing

Steel pipe bundles must be securely fastened using suitable binding materials such as steel strapping, steel wire, or flexible non-metallic alternatives. To prevent damage to the pipes and to prevent cutting of the tying materials, protective padding should be placed between the pipes themselves and between the pipes and the tying materials. Acceptable protective materials include wood, metal, fiberboard, plastic, or other suitable options.

FAQ

Q: What is N80 Q Steel Casing Pipe?

A: N80 Q steel casing pipe is a type of API 5CT casing pipe manufactured from N80-grade steel with a special heat treatment process known as "Q" (quenching and tempering). It is used in oil and gas well construction to provide structural integrity and prevent collapse.

Q: What is the difference between N80-Q and N80-1 casing?

A: N80-Q is quenched and tempered, offering higher strength, toughness, and better resistance to collapse compared to N80-1, which is normalized. N80-Q is suitable for deeper and more challenging well environments.

Q: What sizes are available for N80 Q casing pipe?

A: N80 Q casing is available in sizes ranging from 4 1/2 inches to 20 inches in outer diameter, with various wall thicknesses and thread types (e.g., BTC, LTC, STC).

Q: What standards govern the production of N80 Q casing pipe?

A: N80 Q casing pipe is produced in accordance with the API 5CT standard, which specifies technical delivery conditions for casing and tubing in the petroleum industry.

Q: Where is N80 Q casing pipe typically used?

A: It is used in medium to deep oil and gas wells, particularly in environments with moderate pressure, higher temperatures, and where extra toughness is required.

Q: How is N80 Q casing pipe manufactured?

A: It is typically produced using seamless hot-rolled steel, followed by quenching and tempering heat treatment to enhance mechanical strength and ductility.

Q: What advantages does N80 Q have over other grades?

A: N80 Q offers better mechanical properties and collapse resistance than K55 or N80-1. It performs well in corrosive environments when used with proper coatings or corrosion-resistant alloys.

Q: Can N80 Q casing pipe be used in sour service environments?

A: Standard N80 Q is not recommended for sour service (environments containing H₂S). For such conditions, specialized grades like L80 or C90 with sour service resistance should be used.
